The Color Inside

February 24, 5:30–7:30, at James Turrell’s Skyspace exhibit

In this unique workshop, we'll explore the way color influences mood and atmosphere in writing. We'll meet in the Student Activity Center on the UT campus for a brief talk on color in literature, then settle down in James Turrell's Skyspace to watch the sunset light sequence. The light sequence is a meditative sensory experience that helps still the mind and focus responses to light and color. After the light sequence, we'll take time to write, using color to add depth and emotion to scenes.

Writing from the Subconscious

January 28, 7–9pm, at Brentwood Social House

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to clear the clutter from your head and tap into what’s going on in your subconscious (where all the juicy writing ideas come from). We’ll begin class with a few meditative journaling exercises and then dive into an intriguing writing prompt that will help you access the ideas and emotions floating around in the deeper levels of your brain. Whether you’re working on memoir, fiction, or journal writing, this class will help you develop new strategies for becoming creatively inspired.
